Surf at Montañita

From beginners to advance surfers, all agree that Montañita and closets beaches have the best waves in Ecuador and really good conditions for surfing and bodysurfing.

The point know as La Punta at Montañita is a right wave, break point wave located one kilometre north from the centre of Montañita. Fast, strong and sometimes long, is one of the most respected waves at Ecuador. If the conditions are good, with a big north swell, not too much wind, the wave can get 10 feet tall, with some nice and perfect barrelling sections. This wave is for intermediate and advance surf level; the bottom is reef and at the end of the wave is sandy.

Between Montañia downtown and the right point La Punta, there is always a change to get waves; a beach break of left and rights, fast and fun with sand bottom. The waves is perfect for beginners with rent surfboards and also some locals surf here, usually when La Punta is not working.

Main beaches to surf near Montañita (from south to north)

La FAE:

Located 70 kms south of Montañita, at Salinas, this left is sensitive to any swell, is one of the favourites waves for Guayaquil surfers. You required to have an special permission to get in this area; belong to the Military Force of Ecuador.

Las Tunas / Ayampe:

Located 25 kms north from Montañita, both are beach break that can work almost every day on every season, and can get really good with nice conditions of wind and swell. With lefts and rights, they are a good alternative when at Montañita there are no waves o swell; always Las Tunas or Ayampe can get you a good wave to have fun.
